Description
When it comes to the Northern Light Series nothing has been spared to make this knife as strong, beautiful and comfortable as possible. The knife is a pleasure to look at and a thrill to use! The laminated blade is forged with an edge of VG10W steel to which we have added tungsten (W). In general, the addition of tungsten means that the edge becomes more solid and keeps the sharpness better, at least that is what our own tests have showed. And the sides are made of a tough, all-stainless 420J2 steel. This excellent combination of metals brings together all conceivable and desirable knife properties including resilience, resistance to torque and edge-durability all in a single blade. The 5 mm thick blade itself is strong enough for all reasonable tasks, but with the laminate technology one can expect an additional 20% strength in the form of resistance to bending compared to a non-laminated VG10 blade. The beautiful handle consists of specially selected oxhide that gives a sure and rugged grip. It ages with elegance and as the years pass it acquires an attractive brown patina. The handle is unaffected by oil and solvents and impervious to water. When the oxhide drys out, small cracks on the handle can appear, but they disappear when the knife is used again. We at Fallkniven believe the convex edge to be the ultimate combination of cutting performance and edge strength. Anyone who knows anything about knife making knows that such an edge can only be made by hand, and that’s why 99.99% of all knives don’t have that kind of edge. Machines play a large part in how knives are made, and CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) robots and grinders shape the blades as best they can. The machines are loaded with stacks of blade blanks so that production can go on 24 hours a day and the result is quite often quite good. Well, good for the price anyway. However, if you want top-drawer strength, tremendous corrosion-resistant, edge durability and custom design, no machine can come close to the craftsmanship of a trained and skilled knife smith. Therefore, we take great pride in presenting our Northern Light Series even though we know that only the most quality-conscious knife user will appreciate its features. Each Northern Lights series knife comes with a high-quality black leather sheath.
